A brief introduction ...
I graduated in Chemistry from the University of Liège, Belgium in 1987 and I got my Ph.D. in 1990, also from the University of Liège. For both my M.Sc. and Ph.D. projects, I have been working in the Laboratory of Fine Interfacial Chemistry with Professor Pierre Laszlo. Thus, my main research interests were focused on heterogeneous catalysis of organic reactions by microporous solids such as clays and zeolites. In 1991, I went to Canada for a five-month post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa. I worked there on the homogeneous catalysis of carbon monoxide insertion reactions by palladium complexes under the supervision of Professor Howard Alper. In 1993-1994, I joined Professor Ronald Breslow's group at Columbia University and spent one year in New York city. My research in the Big Apple concerned the biomimetic catalysis of amino acid reactions by chiral vitamin B6 coenzyme analogs. In 1994-1995, I came back to the University of Liège for a while, but then again I moved overseas to work as a research assistant for Professor Keith Smith at the University of Wales, Swansea for one year. Since 1996, I have definitely reintegrated the University
of Liège and I am presenly appointed as a lecturer in organic
chemistry within the Laboratory of Macromolecular Chemistry and Organic Catalysis.

Besides doing research in chemistry, I spend a lot of time working with computers, especially Apple Macintoshes. My other usual pastimes include going to the movies, playing squash, or practicing any sport involving water, either solid or liquid (swimming, sailing, skiing, skating, diving, ...). I also enjoy traveling a lot. I spend most of my holidays abroad, discovering new cities around Europe by train or sailing on the seven seas.
